Kerala who had been going through a dream
run so far in this tournament locked horns with
Karnataka at the Arlem Breweries Ground today.
After winning the toss
and electing to bat, Karnataka got off to a
cracker of a start as openers Robin Uthappa and
Barrington Rowland put on 103 for the 1st wicket
in less than 18 overs. Robin Uthappa carried on
to make a huge century as he scored a
match-winning 160 of just 129 balls with 18
fours and a six. Arunkumar and Raghu contributed
with important 30's as Karnataka posted a huge
total of 306 in the allotted 50 Overs.
Sreekumaran Nair and Yohannan took 2 wickets
each for Kerala.
Kerala in reply never
seemed to get close to the Karnataka total, as
they struggled throughout their batting. Ajay
Kudva top scored with 43 as Kerala just managed
193. Chandrashekhar Raghu was the pick of the
bowlers for Karnataka with figures of 4/33. NC
Aiyappa was the other successive bowler for
Karnataka with figures of 3/39. Karnataka with
this victory earned 5 crucial points which got
them past Kerala in the points table.
Karnataka now face Goa in
the last of their league matches, while Kerala
face Tamil Nadu, both on the 15th of this month.
