Jan 13th, 2005:
Orissa played their first match of the East
Zone League as they faced Jharkhand today at the
Jadavpur University Campus in Kolkata.
The Match was reduced to
44 Overs a side as Orissa won the toss and
elected to field. The Orissa opening bowlers
were on target, especially Deepak Mangaraj who
struck twice early to dismiss both the openers
which included the priced wicket of MS Dhoni.
Ghosh and Chandra Mohan Jha brought the
Jharkhand innings back on track with a 119 run
partnership for the 4th wicket. Once Jha and
Ghosh got out, Orissa wasted no time as Niranjan
Behera broke through the Jharkhand tail with
figures of 4/33. Jharkhand managed to put up a
total of 183 on the board for the cost of 9
wickets.
In reply, Orissa were of
to a shaky start with captain Sumit Panda
sending both the openers back to the pavilion.
But, a well compiled innings from Sanjay Raul
who scored 54, well supported by Niranjan Behera

wickets made sure that Orissa sailed to a
