Gujarat took on Saurashtra today in their
last match of the West Zone League at the Sardar
Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat who desperately
needed a win along with a bonus to be at the top
of the points table, won the toss and elected to
bat first. Vivek Parikh gave a flying start for
Gujarat as he raced of to 81 of just 43 balls,
which included 12 boundaries and 3 meaty hits
over the fence. Niraj Patel who has been in
ominous form throughout the season gave him good
support scoring a valuable 75 of 98 balls.
Skipper Parthiv Patel chipped in with a crucial
68 of 75 balls, as Gujarat posted a huge total
of 308 for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted
50 overs.
Saurashtra, who have
struggled throughout the tournament to win a
game were given a glimmer of hope by Shitanshu
Kotak and Nikhil Rathod as they scored 60 and
77* respectively. But no other batsman
contributed for Saurashtra, as they managed just
243 in 50 overs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Gujarat with this win
earned 5 points and ended up at 2nd place in the
points table tied along with Mumbai.
