Jan 13th, 2005:
After a rainy day one of the East Zone
League where no play was possible, Tripura faced
Bengal today under clear skies at the Eden
Gardens.
The Bengal captain Devang
Gandhi won the toss and elected to field first.
The Bengal new ball bowler Ranjit Ranadeb Bose
stuck twice to dismiss the openers, but
thereafter the Tripura batsmen took control as
Ramaswamy Prasanna and Manoj Singh played
patiently to score 42 and 106* respectively. The
captain Tariq-ur-Rehman chipped in with a slow
but crucial 59 towards the end to see Tripura
post a competitive total of 242 in 50 overs.
Bose was impressive with figures of 3/58.
The Bengal batsmen in
reply were unstoppable, as opener Arindam Das
raced to 78 of just 81 balls. The Bengal captain
Devang Gandhi unleashed some beautiful strokes
as he flayed the Tripura batsmen all around the
park for a brilliant unbeaten 131 with 10 fours
and 4 sixes. Bengal reached their target of 243
in just the 38th over, which ensured them a
bonus point.
Bengal now face Assam on
the 15th of this month, while Tripura face
Orissa on the same day.
Tripura 242/4 in 50 Overs
(M Singh 106* Tariq-ur-Rehman 59, RR Bose
3/58) lost to
Bengal 243/2 in 37.4 Overs (D
