Ranji Trophy - The Cricket Championship of India began in the 1934-35 season . The trophy was donated by the then Maharaja of Patiala, H.H.Bhupender Singh to the BCCI in fond memory of Sir RanjitSinhji who has the honour of playing test cricket for England and also has the distinction of being the first Indian to be the 'Wisden Cricketer of the year' way back in 1897 .
The first Ranji Trophy Championship was annexed to Bombay led by L.P.Jai, Bombay defeating North India which was led by G.E.B.Bell . They were teams like 'Nawanagar', 'Holkar' , 'N.India', 'Madras' and others until the 60s . Now teams like Railways, Services, Kerala and many others have sprung out . This is the 69th Edition of the Ranji Trophy and as many as 30 teams involved in it . A new format has been introduced this season by the BCCI with the top 15 teams divided into 2 groups - Elite A and Elite B , where each team plays the other teams of its group on a league basis . These 15 Elite teams compete for the Ranji Trophy , whereas the remaining 15 teams compete for the Plate Championship . We at CricketFundas.com will be focusing on the 15 Elite teams with a regular Ranji Round Up, Team Pages, Squads, Schedule and Star Players' Profiles .
