Younis Khan
reappointed as Captain! |
October 7, 2006
In
a dramatic turn around of events, the Pakistan
Cricket Board under a new President Dr. Nasim
Ashraf has reappointed
Younis Khan as the Captain for the ICC
Champions Trophy. Leg Spinner
Mushtaq Ahmed
who was serving as the Assistant Coach has been
fired according to Dr. Ashraf. This was mostly
because Mushtaq's role in the team has come
under heavy fire in Pakistan as a match-fixing
inquiry in 1998 held by Justice Qayyum had
barred Mushtaq from holding any position with
the Pakistan team.
Younis Khan had refused to lead the side just
two days back when he had made strong statements
that he didn't want to be a dummy captain. The
PCB had to appoint
Mohammad Yousuf as the new Skipper along
with Abdul Razzaq
as the Vice-Captain. All that is now erased and
Younis Khan wants to lead the side in the best
interests of Pakistan. Mohammad Yousuf will be
his deputy for the Champions Trophy.
