Shoaib Akhtar
punished with a 13-match ban |
Shoaib Akhtar has
been punished with a 13-match ban by the PCB
along with a fine of 3.4 million Pakistani
Rupees for his indiscipline. According to the
PCB, Shoaib has four breaches of the code of
conduct. Shoaib was sent back from the T20 World
Championship after he had reportedly hit fellow
fast bowler Mohammad Asif with a cricket bat.
The disciplinary
committee headed by Shafqat Naghmi has also put
the fast bowler on a two-year probation period
during which he could face a life ban if he is
found guilty of violating the code of conduct
for a player. Shoaib's 13-match ban starts from
the first game of the Twenty20 World
Championship in South Africa where he had missed
seven matches and then two tests at home against
South Africa. The three other breaches of code
of conduct apart from the Asif row are missing a
training camp in August and opting to play a
charity match in England, giving statements
against the Pakistan Cricket Board in the press
and the last one being holding unauthorized
press briefing after his return from South
Africa following the incident with Mohammad
Asif.
Technically, Shoaib
Akhtar is eligible for selection for the fifth
One Dayer of the upcoming 5-match Series against
South Africa. But Shafqat Naghmi, the Chairman
of the Disciplinary Committee quoted that Shoaib
will not be considered for the five-match series
against SA but can make himself available for
the One Day Series against India.
