PCB appoints Waqar and Zaheer for SL tour |
The
Pakistan Cricket Board has called up for the
services of two of its greats - Waqar Younis and
Zaheer Abbas for taking up important
responsibilities on the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.
Waqar Younis has been appointed as the Bowling
Coach and Zaheer Abbas has been appointed as the
Manager. According to the PCB, the Burewala
Bomber has been appointed as the National
Bowling Coach meaning that in addition to the
national team, Waqar would also be coaching
junior teams like the 'A' team, Under 19 and the
Academy teams. The Pakistan side has been
criticized in the recent past for having a
batsmen oriented management with Inzamam and Bob
Woolmer and the need of a specialist bowling
coach was necessary with the bowlers not getting
the right advice. Leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed was
doing the services of a bowling coach/assistant
coach during the home series against England and
India but Pakistan eventually wanted a fast
bowling great to take care of its talented pool
of fast bowlers. With Waqar Younis, a bowling
great with 373 Test wickets and 416 ODI wickets
behind him, Pakistan's bowling looks to be in
the safe hands.
