Shahid Nazir
included in the Pakistan Test Squad |
June 09, 2006
Pakistan has come up with a predictable 16-man
squad for their upcoming tour of England. Only
Shahid Nazir is the surprise inclusion and he
has got in largely because of the ankle injury
to Shoaib Akhtar. Shoaib has been ruled out of
four to six weeks. Shahid Nazir was a part of
the Pakistan Squad during the India Tour in
2004/05. The 28-year-old Nazir can easily clock
over 140 kmph and he was unlucky not to play
much of International Cricket. He has played 8
Tests and 17 ODIs ever since he had entered the
International Circuit in 1996. Shahid Afridi who
had reversed his decision in retiring from Test
Cricket finds a place and Pakistan overall have
selected 7 specialist batsmen along with three
all rounders. Opener Salman Butt along with
Mohammad Sami has also got a recall. Pakistan’s
tour of England is from July 1 to September 10
in which they would be 4 warm up games, 4 Tests,
one Twenty20 and 5 ODIs. It would be interesting
to see if Kamran Akmal, the only wicket keeper
is protected for the warm up games and someone
else does the job in insignificant matches.
Pakistan Test Squad : Inzamam-ul Haq (Captain),
Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Malik,
Salman Butt, Imran Farhat, Kamran Akmal (Wicket
Keeper), Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Danish
Kaneria, Faisal Iqbal, Mohammad Sami, Rana Naved,
