After Afridi, it's Umar Gul's turn to get
injured |
Feb 15, 2006
Umar Gul has been ruled out of the next two One
Dayers owing to a back problem he had developed.
Medium pacer Iftikhar Anjum has been called up
to replace Gul on the request of the Team
Management. Pakistan have been troubled with
injuries to their players throughout the series
and they had already lost Shoaib Akhtar and
Shahid Afridi. Umar Gul had more than a decent
outing at Lahore. The tall lanky bowler had used
the seaming conditions to perfection but was
denied wickets by Sachin Tendulkar's brilliant
resistance to survive. Gul had bowled well
conceding 42 runs and taking the wicket of
Mohammad Kaif at a crucial juncture of the
match. However Pakistan couldn't stop Yuvraj and
Dhoni from winning the match for India.
Iftikhar Anjum had played 12 ODIs after debuting
in the Paktel Cup in 2004. He has had moderate
success in the opportunities he had got taking a
best of 2/67. The 26 year old Rao Iftikhar bowls
fast medium and he had last played for Pakistan
during the tour of West Indies. Pakistan are in
a must win situation at Multan tomorrow to have
any chance of winning the Hutch Cup.
