Arshad Khan recalled for the Indian Tour |
Feb 19th, 2005:
Pakistan have recalled
spinner Arshad Khan for the Test series in
India, four years after his last appearance. The
33-year-old has taken 46 wickets in domestic
cricket this season and will provide the main
slow bowling back-up to leg-spinner Danish
Kaneria. Paceman Mohammad Sami and Mohammad
Khalil have both been passed fit.
Their inclusion in a 16-man squad provides
compensation for the absence of Shoaib Akhtar,
who ruled himself out because of a hamstring
injury. Sami has recovered from a groin injury
suffered in Australia and left-armer Khalil has
satisfied the selectors he is ready to bowl
again after dislocating his shoulder.
Another significant change sees Younis Khan
appointed as vice-captain in place of Yousuf
Youhana. The only change to the batting line-up
sees opener Imran Farhat dropped after scoring
only 44 runs in two Tests on their last tour to
Australia. He is replaced by Taufeeq Umar, who
came into the squad for the one-day VB Series
but only played one match.
Pakistan will play three Tests and six one-day
internationals in India, their first tour there
since 1999.
Pakistan Squad: Inzamam-ul-Haq (C),
Younis Khan (V-C), Yousuf Youhana, Abdul Razzaq,
Shahid Afridi, Taufeeq Umar, Yasir Hameed,
Salman Butt, Shoaib Malik, Asim Kamal, Kamran
Akmal (W.K), Mohammad Sami, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan,
Danish Kaneria, Arshad Khan, Mohammad Khalil.
