Akhtar dropped for the One Dayers |
Lahore, March 25,
2005:
Pakistani speedster
Shoaib Akhtar has been left out of Pakistan's
squad that will play a six-match one-day series
against hosts India beginning April 2.
Openers Taufeeq Umar and Yasir Hameed along with
left-arm pacer Mohammad Khalil, who were part of
the Test squad, have been shown the door. Pacers
Rao Iftikhar and Shahid Nazir and all-rounder
Mohammad Hafeez will replace them. Though Umar
got good starts in the first two Tests, he did
not cash in on them while Hameed and Khalil put
up poor performances.
Shoaib Akhtar resumed bowling at the nets
earlier this week and even had a flat out stint
at the Gaddafi Stadium. Another notable omission
was bowler Shabbir Ahmed, who played his first
domestic match this week after being sidelined
by a knee injury.
Pakistan Squad: Inzamam-ul-Haq (C),
Younis Khan (V-C), Yousuf Youhana, Shahid Afridi,
Abdul Razzaq, Asim Kamal, Kamran Akmal (W.K),
Danish Kaneria, Mohammad Sami, Arshad Khan, Rao
Iftikhar Anjum, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Nazeer,
