Pakistan have picked a 17-man squad for the
3-Test Series against South Africa. Fast bowler
Mohammad Asif whose ban was kept aside finds a
place in the team. The Rawalpindi Express,
Shoaib Akhtar missed out though owing to
question marks on his fitness. Pakistan will
also be playing 5 ODIs and a Twenty20 on this
tour, the squad for which will be announced
later.
Also included in the 17-man squad are middle
order batsman Asim Kamal and Zulqarnain Haider
who will be the back up wicket keeper for Kamran
Akmal. Pak have lost the services of all rounder
Abdul Razzaq who is recovering from a calf
muscle injury which he had sustained during the
fifth ODI against West Indies. The Manager for
the Pak team on this SA tour will be Talat Ali.
The tour begins with a warm up three-day game at
Benoni from the 6th followed by the first test
at Centurion which starts on the 11th. Pakistan
is coming from a 2-0 win over West Indies in a
3-Test Series at home. This is only the fourth
time that Pakistan is playing a Test Series in
South Africa. They have lost 4 tests while
winning one test match in 97/98.
