SA include seven
black players in their One Day Squad! |
January 30, 2007
South Africa have picked a 15-man squad for the
upcoming One Day Series against Pakistan. Seven
black players have been included in the squad.
While most of the players would have included
themselves, a couple of spots were questionable.
It is learnt that Cricket South Africa has set
seven as the minimum number of black players
that have to be included in their World Cup
Squad. The Selectors have also named a 12-man
squad for the Pro Twenty20 International to be
played this Friday at Johannesburg.
Herschelle
Gibbs will be missing the Twenty20 match and the
first ODI as he is serving the ICC ban for
passing racial comments during the first test
match. The Twenty20 Squad will be without senior
players like Kallis, Boucher, Andre Nel and
Ntini. Loots Bosman has been a lucky person to
retain his place in the One Day team, a
selection decision which is questionable. Bosman
had failed in most of the chances he had got at
the highest level. Roger Telemachus is another
player whose selection is not all that
convincing. But Telemachus is considered to be
an experienced death bowler capable of bowling
inswinging yorkers on a consistent basis. Boeta
Dippenaar, who was successful against Pakistan
in the past has been ignored. The first of the
five ODIs is on the 4th at Centurion.
