Shoaib Akhtar
asked to join Test Squad |
January 08, 2007
Shoaib Akhtar has been asked to join the
Pakistan Test Squad in South Africa following
injury worries to pace bowler Umar Gul. The
Rawalpindi Express did not find a place in the
17-man squad which was picked on the 29th of
December. He missed out due to fitness
uncertainties according to the PCB.
Shoaib will be flying out to SA taking the first
available flight but he may not be ready to take
part in the Centurion Test which begins from
11th. Umar Gul had picked up an ankle injury
during the warm up game at Benoni. He had bowled
just three overs in the three-day game before he
pulled out. Pakistan's pace department has been
strengthened immensely after the bans on
Mohammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar were lifted by
the Pakistan Cricket Board. For Shoaib Akhtar a
two-year ban may have ended his career but he's
been lucky to avoid the fatal fall and now he's
fortunate enough to be drafted in the test
squad.
