Asif, Malik fly back to Pakistan |
July 18, 2006
Mohammad Asif
and Shoaib Malik,
the two Pakistani players who had to miss out
the drawn
Lord’s Test have flown back to Pakistan due
to their elbow injuries. Pakistan team
management is optimistic that Mohammad Asif
after some rest could return back to England in
time for the third and the fourth tests along
with the Rawalpindi Express,
Shoaib Akhtar.
On the other hand, Shoaib Malik who had an elbow
surgery will not take any further part in the
Test Series and he would be expected to be back
during the One day Series in August. Two
replacements have been named to join the team
and they are opening batsman
Taufeeq Umar and
medium pacer Rao
Iftikhar Anjum. Pakistan are already with a
replacement in left arm medium pacer, Samiullah
Niazi. There is also speculation that veteran
leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed could be called up to
play the 2nd Test if the Team Management
requests the PCB.
Mushtaq Ahmed who is playing for Sussex in
the English County is currently the leading
wicket taker in this season with 53 in his bag
already. The 2nd Test match at Old Trafford
begins on the 27th of this month.
