Darrell Hair
ready to resign for USD 500,000! |
August 24, 2006
Umpire Darrell Hair, the main character in The
Oval Fiasco has offered the ICC to resign as a
member of the ICC's Elite Panel for a
compensation of USD 500,000! Malcolm Speed, the
ICC Chief Executive had revealed this in a press
conference today in London. Darrell Hair had
written a letter seeking the compensation for
quitting as an ICC Umpire to the ICC's Umpire
Manager, Doug Cowie. This letter will also be
made available to the Pakistan Cricket Board by
the ICC.
The ICC is still backing Darrell Hair's actions
during the forfeited Test Match and the content
written in the letter according to them shows
more of being under severe stress rather than
being dishonest, underhand or having any
malicious intent. Hair's letter was received on
the 22nd by the ICC. Meanwhile Pakistan's tour
of England would go on as per schedule as
Inzamam's disciplinary hearing has been
postponed to September due to the non
availability of Ranjan Madugalle.
