Cairns says
goodbye to International Cricket |
Jan
24, 2006
New
Zealand all rounder Chris Cairns has announced
his retirement from One Day International
Cricket. Cairns had retired from Test Cricket in
2004 and his last appearance for the Black Caps
would be during the twenty20 International
against the touring West Indies at Auckland in
February. The 35-year-old had played 215 ODIs in
a career spanning 15 years with frustrating
injuries always taking away the better of him on
most occasions. The lusty hitter had scored 4950
ODI runs with 4 100s and 26 50s and has proved
to be a match winner with his fast medium pace
taking 201 wickets. Cairns has also scored 3320
runs from 62 Tests at a decent average of 33 and
22 half centuries and 5 hundreds. He has
also taken 218 Test wickets at a good average of
29 and a good enough strike rate of 53.
