It's a
Kallis-Amla act yet again! |
Link to Scorecard
While one team is at the
rock bottom of its game, the other team is at
the very top of its game and that is South
Africa piling up the agony on a feeble New
Zealand. At stumps on the second day, SA are
sitting pretty with a first innings lead of 84
with seven wickets standing strongly. It was yet
again the partnership of Kallis and Amla that is
troubling the New Zealand bowling attack.
The Kiwis who had
started the second day's play with just the one
wicket in had could only add one more run to
their overnight total of 187. Craig Cumming
didn't come into bat as he was just operated on
his face after sustaining fractures due to
yesterday's blow from a Dale Steyn bouncer.
Chris Martin gave a perfect start with the new
ball cleaning up the two openers Graeme Smith
and Herschelle Gibbs cheaply. But that was the
only joy coming for the tourists as the inform
Amla and Kallis carried on from where they had
left in the first test.
Both Amla and Kallis
gave New Zealand no chance of coming back in the
game with their solid batting. NZ eventually
could find a breakthrough in the final session
when Mark Gillespie picked up his first test
scalp that of Kallis (131 from 177 with 17 fours
and 2 sixes). For Kallis, it was hundred no.29
to stay on level with the great Don Bradman!
Amla along with Prince saw the day off with SA
at 272 for 3 in 66 overs. Amla has got himself
to 89 with 13 fours having faced 176 balls. Once
again it was a shortened day with bad light
eating up almost a full session.
