Duleep Trophy Final : North Zone Vs East Zone, Mohali, 4-8 March 2004

North Zone pulled off a 59 run victory over East Zone in the Duleep Trophy final played at Mohali to become the Duleep Trophy Champions. Dinesh Mongia was the captain of the winning side and Devang Gandhi his counterpart. Set a target of 409, East Zone were on course of a victory at a score of 285/6 with Assam's left hander, Kiran Powar batting really well. But once Powar was out at his personal score of 97 and East Zone at 311/7, it was way too much for the East Zone's tail to score the remaining 98 runs. Amit Bhandari and Mithun Manhas picked up three wickets each.  North Zone had batted first and scored 330 with Yuvraj Singh scoring a dazzling 106. Bengal's medium pacer did the damage by picking up a five wicket haul. In reply to North Zone's 330, East Zone scored 322 with Kiran Powar scoring a century. Delhi's off spinner, Sarandeep Singh took a five wicket haul. In their second innings, North Zone did better to put up 400 on the board with Test Opener Akash Chopra falling short of his ton by just 5 runs and Yuvraj Singh sent strong signals of his ability to play the longer version of the game by scoring 148. Veteran Bengal left arm spinner Utpal Chatterjee was among the wickets, picking up four.
