A Feature by Sunayana

She entered the sports world amidst a lot of
speculation and debate, but nonetheless she has
not only survived here but also been a
trendsetter of sorts who has carved a special
niche for herself in her field. She is none
other than Mandira Bedi. A well-known media
personality who after proving her talent and
capabilities in both the small and big screens
ventured into being an integral part of the
commentary team of Set Max in the summer of 2003
which was covering the ICC World Cup.
After
her adventures as a cricket commentator, now
Mandira has set her foot into the lesser-spoken
and under-rated field of Women’s Cricket in
India. "There is so much talent, yet we fail to
give them their due," says Mandira of the women
cricketers. Mandira's efforts to get the Women's
Cricket on the fast track bore fruits when Asmi,
a Diamond company agreed to be the title
sponsors for the forthcoming Test series against
West Indies. The last sponsor for the ladies
team was Hero Honda in 1997. Incidentally,
Mandira is also the Brand Ambassador for Asmi.
She is now on a mission, that of promoting
Women’s Cricket and giving the sport its
well-deserved dues. Now seeing Mandira getting
the sponsors and the way she has been a part of
being the ambassadors which promoted the sport
for the past one year, the whole venturing of
hers in this path ‘lesser’ taken seems a brave
but a very commendable one which sure could be
achieved.
But as the old cliché goes always only time will
tell whether Mandira will succeed in her
escapades. All I can tell her as a fellow
Women’s Cricket enthusiast is – Way to go girl!!
All the best in the task you have chosen.
