It was March 2003
and Maharashtra were playing the mighty Tamil Nadu in the
Ranji One Dayer at the M.A.Chidambaram Stadium. Eight runs
were required off the last five balls and the bowler was the
Tamil Nadu skipper himself, S.Suresh. Facing him was Mandar
Dalvi, a decent all rounder batting at No.10. Mandar played
the shot of the day hitting Suresh over long off for a six to
make it 2 off 4 (and yeah those 2 runs were just a walk over).
And that was all Maharashtra needed to win the game and
ofcourse the Zonal Championship. A year later
Cricketfundas.com caught up with Mandar and the 30-year-old
left arm spinner and left hand bat recounts on his 10 wicket
haul against Himachal Pradesh as his most memorable moment.
Mandar's first class debut was against Bengal wayback in
97/98; interesting fact is that he had to bowl 50 overs in the
first innings! A positive attitude that he has, Mandar is
gearing up for the tough season ahead for his team and he is
working hard towards the same.
