Indo-Pak clash at
Glasgow abandoned due to rain |
July 03, 2007
The much awaited Indo-Pak clash
for the first time since the World Cup has been
abandoned without a single ball bowled because
of unfit ground conditions. The match was called
off at 2:00 PM local time by the umpires as the
ground was completely soaked up with water. The
groundsmen were fighting a lost battle as rain
came and hit the ground after all the hard work
during the morning. Although it did stop, the
ground was in no position to recover. The
drainage system at this Clydesdale Cricket Club
Ground wasn't a really proper one.
This match was supposed to be a
charity One Day International with the returns
going to the Prince Charles' Charity. All that
was witnessed was the Royal Highness, Prince
Charles shaking his hands and posing photographs
with players from both the sides. There was a
terror threat to Glasgow even today with the
Police making a controlled explosion to put off
a suspicious car bomb. For the crowd that had
turned out it is a huge disappointment. They
would get a refund on their tickets though as
the match has been insured by the Scotland
Board. Now India head towards England for their
Test tour with the first test starting from the
19th. Pakistan will have a long rest with only
the Twenty20 World Cup and the South African
series coming up.
