West Indies bring
‘Chinaman’ into their Test Squad |
May 29, 2006
West Indies have rewarded Dave
Mohammed, the left arm chinaman bowler for his
fine efforts in the recent One Dayers against
Zimbabwe and India with a berth in the Test
Squad for the Antigua Test. Dave Mohammed who
only played the 5th and final ODI against India
troubled Sehwag, Dravid, Yuvraj and other Indian
batsmen with his googlies. Even a batsman like
Rahul Dravid had acknowledged that he was
comprehensively beaten by Dave Mohammed’s wrong
one. The 26-year-old Dave Mohammed had played 2
Tests in his career, which was against South
Africa and England. Both these Tests were played
in 2004 and the chinaman bowler has taken three
wickets. The Trinidadian has played just 3 ODIs
and he has been stunning with a strike rate of
19.00. He does bring in good variations like
bowling from behind the crease, flipper along
with the chinaman and the googly that he has.
Looking at the way the pitches have been so far
and how the Indians have played him, Dave
Mohammed looks to be a certainty in the playing
XI for the 1st Test Match at Antigua which
starts on June 2nd.
Coming back to the West Indies Test Squad, it is
very similar to the One Day Squad which was
successful in the recent two home series. Daren
Ganga who has been included in the squad is the
only player not to figure in the One Day Series.
Denesh Ramdin has edged out Carlton Baugh for
the wicket keeper’s spot. It was enough
indication that Ramdin would be selected as he
was drafted in the West Indies line up for the
5th ODI, which West Indies had won on the 28th.
Dwayne Smith and left handed opener Sewnarine
Chattergoon have failed to get a berth and
Shivnarine Chanderpaul who has recovered from
his hamstring injury is back in the scheme of
things for the West Indies.
