Third ODI to be played at Caribbean’s latest
International Venue |
May 22, 2006
The West Indies-India One Day
Series has been very exciting with both the
matches going down the wire. Well both the
matches were played in Kingston, Jamaica and now
the action is set for the 3rd ODI scheduled on
the 23rd at St.Kitts. Warner Park is the name of
the Stadium and it would be hosting its first
ever One Day International on Tuesday.
Interestingly this same venue has also been
granted Test Status and would be hosting the 3rd
Test match between the same teams and that is
going to start on June 22nd.
The Warner Park is located in
the Capital of the Federation of Saint Kitts and
Nevis that is at Basseterre. St. Kitts and Nevis
are two different islands that are separated by
a 3km wide channel. Basseterre is located on the
island of St.Kitts and its stadium – Warner Park
has a capacity of roughly 10000 spectators. The
figure is almost 1/4th of the entire nation’s
population! And that’s probably the reason why
the Government of St.Kitts and Nevis has
declared May 23rd as a National holiday! The
opening day of the 3rd Test match which is on
June 22nd has also been declared as an official
holiday. The present West Indies opener Runako
Morton is from these islands and the Warner Park
is the homeground for the West Indies first
class team ‘Leeward Islands’. Let’s wish that
the people of St.Kitts and Nevis get to watch
some pulsating cricket on the 23rd. For the
people who would be watching the match on the
television, they can see something spectacular
with the mountain ranges in the background at
one end and the view of the other island Nevis
from the other end.
