India hit back by injuries to Powar and
Sreesanth |
May 17, 2006
Ramesh
Powar has been ruled out for the first two
ODIs against West Indies due to a twisted ankle
during the Indian team’s practice and fast
bowler
Sreesanth may not play the opening game at
Kingston due to the same twisted ankle injury.
Powar had twisted his ankle while fielding
during the open nets session of the Indians a
day before the warm up match against Jamaica.
Ramesh Powar had returned back to the dressing
room limping with pain but the news is that the
injury is a minor one and should be alright
before the 3rd ODI. Sreesanth is recovering from
a twisted ankle injury, which he had sustained
during the Abu Dhabi One Dayers against Pakistan
recently. Both these bowlers have been in good
form picking up key wickets for their team
during the recent series and although there are
enough resources for the Indians to fill in the
void created by the absence of these two,
Powar’s teasing off breaks might just be missed
considering the slow and dull nature of the West
Indian pitches. India might just go in with the
same composition that they had gone with in the
warm up match against Jamaica for the 1st ODI
that is scheduled to be played on the 18th at
the Sabina Park in Kingston. This means that
Robin Uthappa, Ramesh Powar and Sreesanth will
be cooling their heels in the dressing room.
