Men
in blue started their tour of West Indies in a
grand fashion by crushing Jamaica by 116 runs in
their warm up match at Montego Bay. Electing to
bat first, the Indians piled up 289 with all the
batsmen contributing their bit towards the
total. Young Suresh Raina was the top scorer
with a neat 79-ball 50. Kaif made a well paced
49 which had come in 60 balls and his innings
also contained a six. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who
walked in at No.7 blasted 49 from just 23 balls
smashing 4 fours and 3 sixes to give India the
perfect finish in the slog overs. The opening
combination for the Indians was Sehwag and
Dravid and this might be an indication that this
is going to be the opening pair for the 1st
ODI.
Jamaica in reply to the visitors’ 289/7 crumbled
to 173 all out with Munaf Patel picking up 3
wickets and the other bowlers chipping in with a
wicket each. The highest score for Jamaica was
just 33, which was scored by their middle order
batsman Tamar Lambert. Indians used as many as
nine bowlers with just Rahul Dravid and Mahendra
Singh Dhoni not rolling their arms. The Indian
Team now gears up for the 1st ODI
which is to be played in this same island of
Jamaica but at a different venue in the Sabina
Park in Kingston.
