Team India
departs for SA tour |
November 14, 2006
The 16-member Indian Squad along with the
support staff has left for the South African
tour during the early hours of Tuesday from
Mumbai. The team would be playing five One
Dayers, a Twenty20 International and three Tests
which are spread from the 16th of this month to
the 6th of January.
There was a slight controversy with the members
of the Indian Team forced to depart in casual
wear rather than the official Blazers which has
been an age old tradition. It was not the
mistake of the players but a mistake of the
Board for failing to provide them with the
official clothing on time. This is the fourth
complete tour for the Indians in South Africa
and they are yet to win a Test Match or any One
Day Series.
The tour opens with a warm-up One Dayer at
Benoni on the 16th against the Ashwell Prince
led Rest of South Africa. The first of the five
ODIs is on the 19th at Johannesburg. The 3-Tests
Series begins from the 15th of next month at the
same venue as the 1st One Dayer. India also
makes its Twenty20 International Debut on
December 1st which is again at Jo’burg.
Interestingly, India has two wicket keepers for
the One Day Series as Dinesh Karthik had
replaced the injured Yuvraj Singh who was ruled
out of the tour.
