Scorecard
A superb unbeaten 99-run stand between Ravinder
Bopara and Stuart Broad saw England home from a
hopeless situation under lights in the 4th ODI
at Old Trafford. England chasing 213 were out of
the match at 114 for 7 but Rahul Dravid and his
boys kept waiting and waiting for the 8th wicket
which never came. Stuart Broad was the hero with
his all round performance, starring with both
the ball and the bat while Bopara did what he
was supposed to do as a genuine batsman.
Rahul Dravid won the toss for
the fourth consecutive time in this series, this
time electing to bat first. After losing three
early wickets, the Indians were kept on the
backfoot. A careful half century from Sachin
Tendulkar put India slightly on the track.
Tendulkar put 71 for the fourth wicket with
Yuvraj before getting out in the deep after
making 55. Yuvraj later went onto score 71 with
5 fours and a six to lift India to 212 in 49.4
overs. The ninth wicket partnership between
Zaheer and Piyush was the difference between
India getting to a score of around 180 to the
final score of 212. For England, Broad picked up
4 for 51 while Anderson kept his wicket taking
habit by picking up 3 for 38.
When England came out to bat, Zaheer cleaned up
Cook's defenses with an incoming delivery which
was followed with a couple of wickets from
Agarkar. Kevin Pietersen looked set for a good
score but he and Flintoff committed hara-kiri to
bring India back in the game. Agarkar added
these two wickets to his bowling figures. Soon
England slipped out of the contest at 114 for 7.
India were certain to draw level the series but
Bopara and Broad had other ideas as they kept on
accumulating the runs to secure the win. England
won with two overs to spare to go 3-1 up in the
series. India will now will have to go on to the
remaining three matches to win this series.
