India's
version of Andre Nel, Shantakumaran Sreesanth
has been fined 50% of his match fees for
breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the
Second Test. Sreesanth was seen deliberately
shoulder-barging England Captain Michael Vaughan
on the fourth day's play at Trent Bridge which
the ICC Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle hasn't
taken lightly. The fast bowler was found guilty
of breaching the clause 2.4 of the ICC Code of
Conduct which is 'inappropriate and deliberate
physical contact between players during play'.
Sreesanth according to the Match Referee had
every opportunity to avoid the collision with
Michael Vaughan who was running towards the non
striker's end which he didn't.
Sreesanth had an
absolutely poor match which saw him lose his run
up, rhythm, action and his cool so much so that
he ended up with just the one wicket in the
first innings to show up for his efforts all
through the match. It wasn't just the
shoulder-barging issue with Michael Vaughan.
Sreesanth also bowled a beamer, which is most
likely an accidental one that floored Kevin
Pietersen. Sreesanth later confirmed that it was
an attempted inswinging yorker that turned out
horribly wrong. That infamous beamer was
followed with a bouncer which was hurled from
round the sticks to Paul Collingwood after what
looked to be deliberate overstepping of the
bowling crease by more than two feet which is a
rarity.
People who
had followed the Trent Bridge Test closely would
think that the England close-in fielders were
successful in the mental disintegration of
Sreesanth by calling him as 'Harry Potter'.
Sreesanth for a change was batting with his
glasses on although he mostly uses contact
lenses during matches. The Trent Bridge Test had
seen players often crossing the limits of
acceptable behaviour. Zaheer Khan while batting
got extremely annoyed because of finding some
unwanted Jelly Beans at the batting crease which
were thrown by some or one of the English
fielders behind the stumps. Zaheer had turned
around showing his bat to Kevin Pietersen and
words were exchanged. Pietersen was heard on the
stumps mic saying 'you have got the wrong man'.
The Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle has already
stated that he will address the Captains of both
sides about the desired playing conduct before
the start of the final test at The Oval.
