Injured Sreesanth
to return home |
May 16, 2007
Fast
bowler Sreesanth will be missing the Test Series
against Bangladesh following a calf muscle pull
in the 1st ODI. Sreesanth has been India's
recent find in Test Matches. Just before the One
Day Series began, Manoj Tiwary had to be flown
back to India because of a shoulder injury, but
no replacement was requested by the team
management.
Sreesanth had bowled just the five overs in the
first ODI at Mirpur after which he had to be
carried out of the ground. He missed the second
ODI with his place taken by debutant leg spinner
Piyush Chawla. Uttar Pradesh left arm quick
R.P.Singh, who has been a part of the Indian One
Day Squad has been asked to stay back as
Sreesanth's replacement. R.P.Singh did not get a
game to play on the tour. The first of the two
test matches is from the 18th at Chittagong.
India had won the ODI Series 2-0 with the third
match at Chittagong being rained out.

The match was doubtful to be played since Sunday
because of heavy rains following a depression in
Bay of Bengal. The two Umpires Asoka de Silva
and Enamul Haque had decided to have an
inspection at 12:00 noon and then decided to
have it an hour later. The conditions were wet,
there was plenty of water that was collected. It
was a packed house, all the 30,000 tickets were
sold out but unfortunately an hour later the
Umpires after consulting the two Captains
decided to call the game off. This match was
supposed to be Habibul Bashar's last One Day
International of his career.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his performances with
the bat in the first two One Dayers has got the
Player of the Series award.
The same venue will be used for the first test
between the two sides which starts on the 18th.
