India selects stronger squad for Second T20
World Cup |

Defending Twenty20 World Cup Champions India
have announced a much stronger squad for the second edition of
the T20 World Cup in England compared to what it was for the
inaugural edition in South Africa in 2007. There has been six
changes to the squad that won the first T20 World Cup held in
South Africa a couple of years. Reliable fast bowler Zaheer
Khan has found a place along with swing bowler Praveen Kumar
in the 15-man squad to be led by MS Dhoni.
Missing the boat were Mumbai's Abhishek
Nayar, Munaf Patel and new find from
Rajasthan Royals - Kamran Khan, who of course has been
sidelined from the IPL itself following a
suspicious bowling action. The players who were
part of the first T20 World Cup Squad but not able to retain
their places are Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, Piyush Chawla,
Sreesanth, Joginder Sharma and Ajit Agarkar. The notable
inclusions in this edition's T20 Squad are Pragyan Ojha who
has been dominating the current IPL with his left arm spin,
young all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The squad looks extremely
strong with the pace quartet of Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and
Praveen Kumar backed up with the all-round option of Irfan
Pathan.
There is another main reason as to why this
squad is much stronger than the one that won the World Cup in
2007. And that is Yusuf Pathan, who has evolved completely as
one of the most dangerous batsmen in world cricket in the last
year or so. Yusuf was part of the 2007 squad but hardly got to
play. Infact there is also the presence of the highly
confident and talented Suresh Raina, who has easily been the
best Indian batsman in the IPL this season. Raina was not even
a part of the 2007 T20 World Cup Squad. Making his comeback in
the Indian team is RP Singh who is back at his best bowling
fast with good swing and bounce.
