Zaheer Khan who broke down during the Lord’s Test with a hamstring injury has been ruled out of the rest of the English tour. RP Singh who was extremely successful in the 2007 England tour finally makes a well deserving comeback after being named as Zaheer’s replacement.
The BCCI has stated that Zaheer is not only having a hamstring strain but also has a right ankle injury which needs surgery. The left armer has been ruled out for more than 16 weeks which will be the rehabilitation period after the ankle surgery. Zaheer tried to get back into the scheme of things by starting training during the second Test at Trent Bridge. However, his exit from competitive crikcet for sometime was inevitable when he bowled only three overs on the first day of the Warm-Up Match against Northamptonshire.
Zaheer’s replacement RP Singh is no rookie at the international level having played 13 Tests, 55 ODIs and 10 T20Is. RP Singh infact is a lot quicker than Zaheer and swings and seams the ball both ways efficiently though he is not as experienced as the latter. RP Singh will replace Zaheer in the ODI Squad as well.
