- A Feature by Karthik Narayan
Yet another new team, new players, totally
radical change in the format of the game, the
game is going no where really… technology-wise,
the InfoTech gurus are getting richer,
sponsoring has skyrocketed, funds are pouring
into the game.
But fools rush in where
the wise Angels fear to tread… and this has come
true in this case! The ICC has suddenly thrust
an all-new team into the International Arena in
the name of Globalization. On a basis of one
small tournament of the ICC, they qualify to
take on the Great Teams of the Game!
This is totally uncalled for, the ICC has been
regularly bringing in such new teams, and these
teams are unable to survive really in the big
scene… Holland, Canada just were too much
burdened. If at all u want to brand a new team,
why at all bring it in a Knockout Tournament
when one can always bring them in and play them
over a longer period of time? In the name of
globalization, the ICC has just been tarnishing
the Name of the Game.
If they bring in more teams, those teams must be
played… what is the purpose served if a team is
just brought in, and played in a series, they
barely play themselves in, and next thing they
know, they don’t play at all… a few World
Records are made against them.. That’s about
all! For all you know, USA may even go on to win
some laurels with some good cricket, for all you
know, WITH ALL THE LUCK AND MIRACLES IN THIS
WORLD, they may even win the Tournament! That
may be the moral victory of the ICC.
But what happens if USA gets thrown out first
match?? All that jazz, pepperoni in the world,
they come all the way across the Atlantic Ocean
just for playing one single match??? How fair is
that?? And every single player in that team
wouldn’t know when their next match would come
from! Just imagine, considering the average
career span of an American player to be 12
years, and with World Cups, and Mini World Cups
almost every year, in a dozen years, (assuming
the player plays in all matches), the average
American / Holland/ Canadian player would have
played 15 International matches!
That’s Globalization for you!
The solution is: create small clubs, or leagues
in each country, facilitate grounds and matches,
inside these and have the ICC tournaments for
these teams on a regular basis, say once in a
quarter. And then bring them into the big field…
Is ICC listening yet? Do
Tune in for more on this right after this ICC
Knockout!
