April 20, 2006

Mahi better known as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the dynamic Indian Wicket Keeper Batsman has become the No.1 batsman in the world for One Day Internationals. The 24-year-old Indian edged out the Australian Skipper Ricky Ponting by just 1 point with his half century in the 2nd ODI at Abu Dhabi. Dhoni with a rating of 806 is having a neck to neck race with Ponting who has 805 and the Australian Wicket Keeper Adam Gilchrist who is having a rating of 793. Critics all over the world have been talking that Mahendra Singh Dhoni has a long way to come near to Adam Gilchrist, well he certainly has come a long way in a short span of time to match with Gilchrist and he is now there at the top of the world. Dhoni is currently averaging 52.76 with a mind boggling strike rate of 103.00 after playing 42 ODIs after making his Debut against Bangladesh in 2004/05. This new superstar has already hit two unbelievable knocks of 148 and 183* in his short career. Apart from Dhoni, two more Indian batsmen are there in the Top 10 with Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj hanging in there at No. 9 and No. 10 with their consistent show. Among the bowlers, Irfan Pathan has climbed up the ladder to No.3 and Harbhajan Singh is at No.10. The latest ICC Cricket Ratings for teams and players can be found here.
