The
opening day of this season's Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold
Cup saw the ball dominate over the bat mostly .
Vidharbha are in a commanding position after the
1st day's play against Hyderabad President's XI,
here at the Gymkhana Grounds. Electing to bat
first, HCA President's XI's batting was jolted
by medium pacer Sandeep Singh and the
experienced off spinner Preetham Gandhe. HCA
President's XI's batting didn't get going as wickets
fell in a heap and in the end, it was a meek
total of 132 only. Only wicket keeper batsman,
Abhinav Kumar (54),
who had opened the innings
played well to pile up a neat half century. The
only other notable performance from the
President's XI was that of their skipper, Inder
Sekhar Reddy who hit a quickfire 27. The
inexperienced team of HCA President's XI's
innings lasted only 53 overs with Sandeep Singh
with figures of 3/29 and Preetham Gandhe with
4/49. In
reply, Vidharbha scored 121 losing only one
wicket to medium pacer M.P.Arjun. Wicket Keeper
batsman Amit Deshpande just like his counterpart
Abhinav, scored a half century. Deshpande is
batting on 59 and Alind Naidu is on 41 after the
end of the day's play. With just 11 runs behind
HCA President XI's 1st innings total, Vidharbha
are definitely in the driver's seat unless and
until the homeside pulls of a spirited effort in
the second day's play.
