Ganguly banned for 6 ODI's |
April 12th 2005, Ahmedabad:
India captain Sourav Ganguly has been banned
for six One-Day Internationals for his team's
slow over rate in the fourth ODI against
Pakistan in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
International Cricket Council match referee
Chris Broad made the decision to suspend him
after Pakistan's final-ball win, which squared
the limited-overs series at 2-2, because Ganguly
had breached the ICC code of conduct for the
second match in succession.
Ganguly, who has 24 hours to appeal against
the ban, has also been fined 30% of his match
fee for the slow over, while the other Indian
players have been hit with 15% fines.
Rahul Dravid is set to take over the
captaincy for the remaining two matches against
Pakistan later this week with Virender Sehwag
his deputy, before the side go on to host
Bangladesh and then tour Zimbabwe in October.
