Pietersen fined for showing dissent |
Mar 14, 2006
England's
dashing middle order batsman Kevin Pietersen has
been fined 30% of his match fees for showing
dissent during the fourth day's play of the 2nd
Test at Mohali. Kevin Pietersen was extremely
happy when he was given out caught off Harbhajan
Singh by Umpire Darrel Hair. Television replays
showed that the ball came off the batsman's
forearm and did not take any part of the glove
which the Umpire thought. A shake of the head in
disbelief and a few words muttered by Kevin
Pietersen invited trouble from the Match
Referee's office. The Match Referee Ranjan
Madugalle from Sri Lanka charged Pietersen for
breaching the ICC Code of Conduct and charged
him with 30% fine after calling him for a
hearing along with the England Captain Andrew
Flintoff, Coach Duncan Fletcher and the three
umpires. Kevin Pietersen's decision proved to be
a crucial one as England slumped to 181 all out
allowing India to romp home by 9 wickets.
However in the previous Test at Nagpur,
Pietersen was given not out after he was cleanly
caught and bowled by Anil Kumble at a crucial
juncture of the Test Match, so things got
leveled for KP this time around.
