Michael Vaughan
to lead England's challenge in the Caribbean |
February 14, 2007
England
will be led by Michael Vaughan in the upcoming
World Cup in the Caribbean. Vaughan is still
fighting a hamstring injury that had restricted
his role in the recently concluded Tri-Series in
Australia. England have made a drastic
improvement in their One Day Cricket by winning
the Commonwealth Bank Series defeating New
Zealand and Australia.
There is no place for veteran fast bowler Darren
Gough, who could have been included had
England's poor form in the one day format of the
game continued. England have kept faith in most
of the players that were tested in the
tri-series. That includes the 36-year-old wicket
keeper, Paul Nixon who has edged out Chris Read
and Geraint Jones. Mal Loye, the 34-year-old
opening batsman has failed to make it to the
squad due to Vaughan's availability. Essex all
rounder Ravi Bopara due to his handy medium pace
has found a place among the 15. England are in
Group C along with New Zealand, Kenya and
Canada. England open their campaign against New
Zealand on the 16th of March at St. Lucia.
