Sreesanth
replaces the injured Agarkar |
October 28, 2006
A
demoralized Indian team which had lost against
West Indies at Ahmedabad has lost its senior
bowler, Ajit Agarkar who has been ruled out of
the tournament with a broken thumb. It is learnt
that Ajit Agarkar had sustained a hair line
fracture to his left thumb after trying to field
a Runako Morton straight drive off his own
bowling. Shantakumaran Sreesanth, the nippy
Kerala fast bowler who did little wrong not to
find a place in the Indian team for this
Tournament is Agarkar's replacement. It is more
than likely that Ajit Agarkar will be missing
next month's South Africa tour as the nature of
injury takes atleast four weeks to heal. The
team for the five One Dayers will be picked
during India's last league match against
Australia at Mohali. India and Australia are
both in a must-win situation on Sunday, the side
that wins will join New Zealand, West Indies and
South Africa in the Semi Finals.
It's not just Ajit Agarkar who has an injury,
medium pacer Munaf Patel who has been one of the
best bowlers for India in the last two series is
struggling with wrist pain. Middle order batsman
Yuvraj Singh has hurt his left knee today during
a warm-up game of kho-kho. The team's trainer
Greg King has been in hospital since few days
and has been suffering from Dengue, a disease
caused by mosquito bite.
