Man who is going
higher? Its KP! |
By Syed Ahsan Ali, June 04, 2007
This
is where the love of the game will be
admired. Here the sports play their part
in bringing people closer. This is one
aspect of the game where you tend to
forget whether you are an Indian,
Pakistani or an Aussie fan. It only
remains as the matter of likeability,
the matter of praise of someone’s
ability as a player. Kevin Pietersen is
the player who can spark an interest and
anticipation when he comes to bat with
intent. He is the one who attracts all
the gloss and glamour along with
colossal all-rounder Flintoff.
The man looks good on eyes because his
always positive attitude makes him
attractive and imaginative. He hardly
sets any boundaries for himself. If he
is batting on 100 he can play a cheeky
reverse sweep which does not necessarily
comes off or looks very elegant but
regardless of how it looks, he likes to
amass runs no matter how they come.
The
thing which amazes everyone is the
consistency in his run making streak.
The World Cup was not over when he was
preparing for West Indies to arrive.
Players all round the globe are making
themselves unavailable after mega-event;
some for personal reasons, some for
playing other cricket than international
cricket and some for getting leisure
after a tiresome World Cup, but KP
hardly muttered a word about his craving
for the game as if he does not want to
let this golden period go by when his
bat is pouring runs against each and
every opposition in 50 over game or in
Test cricket.
His knock of a well carved out hundred
in the first Test which raised all hopes
of a result for England and then 226 in
the second Test has definitely put him
in the bracket which is slotted for the
players who stay in the news due to
their performances. KP is just doing
that. Stirring the cricket world with
his exhilarating hunger for runs and
fulfilling that hunger with enormous
ease and pleasure.
The way he is moving is quite similar to
the way when Sehwag moved in his Test
career in the beginning and then things
took ugly turn for unknown reasons which
has been bothering Veeru since then.
Hundreds filled with excruciating stroke
making and in the next Test triple
hundred filled with composure and
concentration, remorsefully Veeru lost
it somewhere. Hopefully, KP will not
throw it away like that. But he is
definitely going upwards at the moment
and entertaining everyone regardless of
who watches him bat. He is providing
them a show which everyone wants to keep
beholding. Let’s see how long he can
keep running it, we wish he keeps
running it because it’s a fun.
