Bradman Twenty20 Cup : K.S.C.A XI  Vs Air India , Final, 21.8.2004, Bangalore

 

 

Air India have lifted the Bradman Twenty20 Cup by defeating the hosts Karnataka State Cricket Association XI (KSCA XI) in a curtailed final. Batting first, KSCA XI made 117 losing 5 wickets in 17 overs. The KSCA XI innings had to come to an abrupt close because of rain stoppage. All rounder Balachandra Akhil top scored with an unbeaten 25 and the other notable score was from right hand opener Robin Uthappa who had made 19. Air India which had fielded Rudra Pratap Singh, who is the latest inclusion in the Indian team, came good picking up 2 wickets for his side. The revised target for Air India was 121 which they achieved in just 16 overs with Nauman Ojha blasting his way to 62 in 45 balls and skipper Suresh Raina scoring a stroke filled 37. For Karnataka, Raghavendra picked up 3 wickets. Nauman Ojha was the man of the match.

 

 

Earlier KSCA edged out the other two teams Bradman World XI and Chemplast in the knock out tie breaker to enter into the finals. It is known that all the teams in the Group B have won a match each leading to this tie breaker called the bowl-out. According to 20/20 conditions, the three teams had to rope in 5 bowlers each and each bowler would be bowling 2 balls at the stumps without a batsman, the winner is the team that hits the stumps most times of the 10 balls given. Bradman World XI could hit the stumps on just 2 occasions, Chemplast had hit 5 times and the winner was KSCA after hitting the stumps on 8 occasions.

KSCA XI: 117/5 in 17 overs (B Akhil 25*, Robin Uthappa 19, Rudra Pratap Singh 2/31) lost to Air India: 121/4 in 16 overs (Naman Ojha 66, Suresh Raina 37, C Raghavendra 3/20)
