The Bob Woolmer
Case has been closed. |
June 13, 2007
The Bob Woolmer Investigation Case has been
closed according to an announcement from the
Jamaican Police. The Cops have confirmed that
Mr.Woolmer had died because of 'natural causes'
and thus ruling out any murder and any
involvement of any International Player or
Official. The same Police had confirmed on March
23rd that Bob Woolmer was murdered after
receiving a post mortem report from Dr. Ere
Seshaiah, the Government Pathologist. The Police
have now closed the case saying that Woolmer had
a natural death on March 18th. The death could
be because of a heart attack, as such Bob wasn't
healthy enough as he was suffering from
diabetes.
Ever
since it was said that Woolmer's death could
have been because of a murder, there have been
several theories coming in the media on why and
who could have done the crime. Firstly, the
Police stated that Woolmer died because of
manual strangulation after toxicating him. The
Jamaican Police took the professional help from
the Scotland Yard Police, there were also
detectives coming from Pakistan. Further
toxicology tests were carried out but nothing
came out all these days to give any evidence
that there was a murder. One of the few leads
that the Police had in this investigation was
the CCTV Captures from the hotel. The BBC had
broadcasted a sensational programme called
'Panorama' which told that Bob Woolmer might
have received a 'Fatwa' which was the reason for
his murder. Later there were doubts on the
former Cricketer Mushtaq Ahmed as it was
confirmed that he had given a Champagne Bottle
to Woolmer a day before his death. The same
bottle was found empty in the hotel room in
which Bob's body was found on the 18th of March.
Back in South Africa, Gill
Woolmer, the widow of Bob has released a
statement which says "My sons and I are
relieved to be officially informed that Bob died
of natural causes. We realise that this
investigation has been problematical given the
circumstances and the media spotlight. We hope
this matter will now be closed and that our
family will be left to grieve in peace." The
Pakistan players who were part of the World Cup
are also relieved but at the same time are angry
at the way they were treated during all the
investigations and the speculations which
followed later. According to the Jamaican
Constabulary Force, about 400 people were
interviewed and 250 statements were recorded.
Now that the Mystery Case of Bob Woolmer has
been closed, it is upto noted Bollywood
filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt on what kind of a climax
he gives to his film 'Paradise' which is based
on Bob Woolmer's murder oops 'natural death' at
the World Cup!
