Sourav, Kumble
ignored for Champions Trophy; No changes for
Malaysia Tri-Series |
September 03, 2006
Sourav
Ganguly and Anil Kumble have missed out in
finding berths in the 14-man squad for the
Champions Trophy to be held in India in October.
The Selectors have also a picked a 15-man squad
for the upcoming Tri-Series in Malaysia. There
have been no changes from the squad that was
picked for the abandoned Unitech Cup in Sri
Lanka.
The same squad selected for the Malaysia Series
would take part in the Champions Trophy with the
exception of Kerala Fast Bowler, Shantakumaran
Sreesanth. Rudra Pratap Singh has got selected
over him for the Champions Trophy following his
good show for India A during the recent tour of
Australia. RP Singh's selection could also be
because he provides the variety to the bowling
attack by being the lone left arm seamer in the
squad.
Former
Indian Skipper Sourav Ganguly has once again
failed to get the nod of the selectors. His
cause wasn't helped by his failure in English
County for Northamptonshire. Anil Kumble on the
other hand was recovering from Tendonitis in his
bowling shoulder and the Selectors couldn't take
the risk of including him in the squad for next
month's Champions Trophy as there was no way
they could have a replacement midway incase
Kumble is ruled out in the next few days.
