Ramesh Powar
breaks into the Test Squad |
May 24, 2006
The
stocky Off Spinner Ramesh Powar has got a berth
in the Indian Test Squad for the four test match
series against West Indies starting from June
2nd. The Selectors have picked a 16-man squad
which also includes a reserve wicket keeper in
Dinesh Karthik. There’s no place for Sourav
Ganguly despite the fact that Sachin Tendulkar
has been ruled out of this series. Suresh Raina
has got the nod over him for the middle order
berth following his ‘just about decent outings’
so far in his ODI career. Another interesting
move from the Selectors has been to drop Ajit
Agarkar, who has been the best bowler on the
tour so far. The wise men have gone in for the
stats of Agarkar in Test Cricket rather than
form and potential. Rudra Pratap Singh has been
dropped after his unimpressive show of late and
VRV Singh has been persisted with as he brings
in the fire and the pace in his bowling.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is looked upon to fill in
the opener’s role in case anything happens to
either Virender Sehwag or Wasim Jaffer. The
composition of the squad consists of 7
specialist batsmen, 4 pacers, 3 spinners and 2
wicket keeper batsmen. India after playing the
remaining two ODIs go to Antigua for the 1st
Test and before that they are engaged to play a
2-day match against Antigua & Barbuda.
