Tendulkar still
unfit, will miss the WI tour |
May 23, 2006
Sachin
Tendulkar has ruled himself out of the
upcoming Test Series against West Indies stating
that his shoulder wasn’t 100% fit and there is
still weakness in it. At present he says that he
is not ready physically to compete in
International Cricket. Tendulkar did not undergo
the fitness test that was scheduled today and he
is going to London to consult Dr.Andrew Wallace,
the surgeon who had operated on his right
shoulder in March. Former Indian team physio
Andrew Leipus who has been assisting in
Tendulkar’s rehabilitation has stated that the
player cannot be strained with any further
training and its important for him to rest his
body for some more time to regain the lost
strength if he has to get back to International
Cricket.
The length of rehabilitation
time is yet to be known but Tendulkar is
expected of getting back to full fitness for the
Triangular Series in Sri Lanka which is in the
month of August. Sachin Tendulkar has played 10
Tests in the Caribbean with moderate success if
his high standards are to go by. Having played
in 10 Tests and in total 14 innings, Tendulkar
has scored 620 runs at an average of over 47.00
and has got a century and five half centuries.
The middle order great has also had the
embarrassment of getting out without troubling
the scorers on three occasions and three other
scores from him were just single digit numbers!
The other Indian Player who was
injured is
Wasim Jaffer (shin injury) and he has passed
a fitness Test today and is available for
selection. The Indian Test Squad for the four
Tests starting from June 2nd is to be picked
tomorrow. With Tendulkar ruled out of the
equation, the door of hope has just opened up
slightly for Former Indian Captain
Sourav Ganguly to sneak through in the
Indian team but it might depend strongly on the
man who has been shutting it from behind –
Mr.Greg Chappell.
