Ramesh Powar to join Indian team in Pak
|
Feb 07, 2006
Mumbai
all-rounder Ramesh Powar has been asked to pack
his bags and go to Pakistan as the 16th member
of the Indian ODI Squad. The off spinner has
been called up as a cover to the other off
spinner Harbhajan Singh, who is currently having
a finger injury. Harbhajan had to miss out the
first One Day International at Peshawar due to
the same and India had lost the match even after
scoring over 320. The Specialist Spinner Murali
Kartik was clobbered in his 9 overs and this
meant that with Harbhajan Singh down with
injury, India was having some serious bowling
problems.
Ramesh Powar is known for his fighting skills
with both bat and ball and has on numerous
occasions had pulled his state side Mumbai out
of the rut. He isn't highly talented with both
bat and ball but he is like a Robin Singh, who
gives more than 100% in whatever he does on the
field. Powar has had a good season in the just
concluded Ranji Trophy taking 42 wickets. He had
played two One Day Internationals and both of
them were against Pakistan in Pakistan. In that
tour of 2003/04, Powar held himself very well on
those flat batting tracks by keeping the batsmen
under check. He displayed his skills with the
bat by trying in vain to take India to victory
with his 11-ball 18 at Rawalpindi. With 4 first
class hundreds and 246 wickets as of now, India
would be looking up to him to deliver in this
difficult period for the team. Powar is well in
contention to play the 2nd ODI at Rawalpindi,
which begins on the 11th.
