Player Contracts
released; Pathan gets a promotion |

The much awaited BCCI annual central contracts
have been announced with Irfan Pathan getting
promoted to the Group A contract. Former Skipper
Sourav Ganguly has got his Group A contract
renewed putting an end to speculations that he
would have been given a Group C Contract.
Fifteen players have been given the contracts
and all of them are divided into three Groups A,
B and C. The BCCI has allocated 26% of the
profits it makes towards players' salaries. The
National Team players get 13% out of that and
the rest goes to the First Class Cricketers and
players who represent India in the A-tours etc.
A Group 'A' Contract gives a cricketer something
like 80-100 lakhs Indian Rupees, a Group 'B'
contract gives a sum of 60-70 lakhs Indian
Rupees and the Group 'C' cricketer gets a slab
of 30-40 lakhs Indian Rupees annually. Greg
Chappell, the Indian Team Coach and the rest of
the support staff of the Indian team have also
signed the official contracts which are valid
till the 2007 World Cup.
The Indian Cricket Team has now become the
richest sports brand in the world with Air
Sahara singing a sponsorship deal worth of Rs.
313 Crores for branding its logo on the chest
and the leading arm of players' jerseys and
Nike, the leading brand in sports accessories
signing up the kit sponsorship deal for Rs.
196.66 Crores. Air Sahara has a contract for
four years and Nike has a contract for a
five-year period. Following are the cricketers
who have been awarded the contracts :
