Ganguly, Zaheer and
Parthiv back in the squad for Pak tour |
The Selectors have recalled former skipper
Sourav Ganguly, speedster Zaheer Khan and wicket
keeper Parthiv Patel for the upcoming Pakistan
tour. Parthiv has been named as the second
wicket keeper to M.S.Dhoni and has got the nod
ahead of
Dinesh Karthik. Only Parthiv had played in
Pakistan before. Dinesh Karthik who was India's
keeper for Tests for a while had to be dumped
due to Dhoni's unbelievable knocks in the ODIs
and he has now failed to even make it as the
No.2 Keeper due to his failures with the bat in
the ongoing Ranji Season for Tamil Nadu.
Middle Order batsman
Mohammad Kaif has failed to get a berth
after his twin failures in the Ahmedabad Test
against Sri Lanka although he picked up few
brilliant catches that had influenced the Test
Match.
Coming to the inclusion of Sourav Ganguly in the
side, Kiran More, the Chairman of Selectors
stated that "We got Sourav back because we
needed some experience for the tough tour.
Sourav has experience and runs behind him. If
you see the recent record and statistics, he
hasn't done well but we needed his experience on
this tour. I am not saying he will play in the
XI. That will be selected by the team management
and one selector who will accompany the team on
that tour." Wasim Jaffer has also retained his
place as the third opener.
Murali Kartik hasn't been picked in the
16-man squad with Zaheer Khan coming into his
place and Rudra Pratap Singh holding his place.
Zaheer Khan after being dropped in the home
series has made the ball do the talking with a
series of explosive spells in the Afro-Asian
Series and then the Duleep Trophy and Ranji
Trophy games.
The first of the three Tests begins on the 14th
of January at Lahore.
