Ganguly axed for
the third Test; Jaffer recalled |
Dec
14, 2005
Former
Indian Skipper Sourav Ganguly has been axed for
the third and final Test against Sri Lanka to
begin from 18th at Ahmedabad. Ganguly who had
played two valuable knocks of 40 and 39 in the
just concluded Delhi Test has lost favour with
the new Selection Committee for Mumbai opener
Wasim Jaffer. Jaffer had played 7 Tests
previously and had notched up a highest score of
86 against West Indies. Jaffer couldn't play to
his ability in the opportunities he had got
averaging just over 20 and scoring 3 fifties in
the 13 innings he had played. However Wasim
Jaffer has always been a run machine in Indian
First Class Cricket, he had cracked a double
century in the
opening
match of this season's Ranji Trophy against
Delhi. Jaffer could well push Gautam Gambhir
at the top with Yuvraj making his place in the
middle order intact with a splendid half
century. The Selectors have retained Rahul
Dravid as the Skipper for the upcoming away
series against Pakistan and the home series
against England.
